Trauma
Trauma is an emotional response to an event. One way of explaining trauma is "too much, too soon, too fast" or sometimes too little, in a way that our brain does not integrate. It interferes with our ability to experience safety and trust. This may result from an overtly distressing event, like near-death experiences and physical or sexual abuse. However, trauma is also often the result of other experiences like verbal abuse, bullying, and neglect. It's not so much the event, but the shape in which our brain is left afterward. This can leave us with a number of symptoms, which differ from person to person.
Anxiety
Anxiety may feel like nervousness, fear, dread, and uneasiness. We may have a sense of impending danger and experience intrusive thoughts. Symptoms may include increased heart rate, rapid breathing, trembling, excessive sweating, trouble concentrating, feeling weak or tired, and inability to relax.
Depression
Depression may feel like persistent sadness, apathy, low energy, and loss of interest in things that once brought you joy. We may sleep too much or too little, eat too much or too little, neglect self-care, have trouble concentrating, and experience a sense of hopelessness.
